Course Programme

Wednesday, 25th October 2017

Anthony Bunsell: Introduction to fibre-reinforced structural composite materials. Fibre properties and complex interactions between the matrix, reinforcement and interfaces will be detailed. This introduction will lead to an understanding of the relationships between composite microstructure evolution (damage processes) and its mechanical properties (including time effects).

Andy Long: New textile forms for composite structures. Damage processes and multiscale 3D modelling.

Thursday, 26th October 2017

Albert Turon Travesa: Mechanics of deformation and frcature of advances polymer composite materials. Modelling strategies including cohesive zone models for static and fatigue load cases.

Alexander Bismarck: Study of hybrid composite materials  in order to yield a better strength, a better stiffness or other mechanical properties, while keeping a very high strength to weight ratio. The specific damage processes in such materials will be presented.

Friday, 27th October 2017

Véronique Michaud: Composite transformation. Process-Structure-Properties relashionships.

Peter Davies: Marine application and long term behaviour of composites structures. Fatigue and durability. See water ageing of composites.
